Android 5.1 roundup: what's new ?

Earlier this week Google released the Android 5.1 Lollipop more than overdue update that has now hopefully squashed all bugs that have soured in recent versions of the joy of the system. But what Android 5.1 brings all things to himself, had not been planned in detail. The guys at Android Authority have taken apart the version and demonstrates all the new features.

Quick Settings

Thus, the already retreaded Android 5.0, Quick Settings again a little extended. Now you can watch directly from the Quick Settings panel from connecting to a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth device of your choice without having to change the settings. In addition to the symbols for WLAN and Bluetooth, a small arrow that indicates you by typing what devices are available now appears. Rather trivial, but nice to look at: The animation for the rotation lock was replaced.

Screen pinning

With Android 5.0 Google introduced the function screen pinning. This feature was already on iOS and causes your app is an open with a lock so that only this one app can be used. This is advantageous when children want to play as games on your smartphone, but to see anything on the device or further adjusted. Screen pinning can be found in the security settings and the word choice of settings has now changed more or clarified. If you've pinned an app that shows you Android 5.1 now available, the keyboard shortcut need you to press to exit the screen pinning mode again can.

Contacts

The contacts app is also slightly improved. The perceived by many to be annoying color filter through the contact pictures has now been removed. Even in my eyes very annoying feature was removed, namely the forced Google+ profile pictures. These have been described yet every time you sync the contacts selected as the default profile picture for a contact, instead of your own choosing.

Volume control and Profiles

For some unknown reason Google has so far killed with the launch of Android 5.0 to silent mode. Android 5.1 also brings no silent mode back, this one has the opportunity now easily access the volume control for alerts. The icons for the priority and not disturb mode will now appear on the selection in the status bar at the top. You also now get in do not disturb mode also alerts and notification LED (if any) lights. Unfortunately, the alarm clock in do not disturb mode will not still out, so you have to create a Priority mode as a workaround, are allowed at the alarm clock. If your media is playing, you've now also possible when activating the volume button to tap on the device to a device appearing on the screen bell icon and adjust the system volume. In addition, the priority mode will now be better managed.

Heads-Up Notifications

Google has also improved the heads-up notifications. If you receive a notification, you can now wipe this up and they stay you get on the notification list. Previously this had the effect that the notification disappeared completely. In addition, Google introduces Android 5.1 "Device Protection" before, so that your device is associated even after a complete wipe with your Google account and can be configured only after you enter your data. Unfortunately, this feature is currently only users of a Nexus or Nexus 6 9 reserved.

Was already known in advance that Android 5.1 now supports HD Voice calls - if the device and the wireless service providers support the function. In addition, the dual SIM support now baked into the operating system. Overall, Google has done with Android 5.1 over 14,000 changes we understandably can not be listed.
